Thomas J. ‘Tom’ Geren, age 85, of Fremont died on Sunday, August 30, 2026 at the Heritage at Shalimar Gardens Thomas J. Geren was born in Hastings on October 12, 1940 to Michael “Rube” Geren and Della E. McGowan. He attended school at Central City Public Schools and graduated from Central City High School in May, 1958. He participated in football. Met his future wife, Sharon L. Johnson, while in high school.
The couple later married and had two children, Michael Geren (Rebecca) and Marcella Steinhauer (Daniel). Tom attended Creighton University and St. Joseph Hospital where he attained a degree in X-ray technology and Nuclear Medicine technology. Met and married Joan Klock in 1968. He worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Omaha (which had a nuclear reactor) for forty- four years.
Tom served the veterans with great kindness and care. He and Joan participated in professional ballroom dancing and competed in dance competitions in the United States and in Europe.
His favorite pastimes included listening to Nebraska football on Saturdays while mowing the lawn. He also enjoyed a good beer. He lived in Bellevue, Omaha, Council Bluffs, and Fremont.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife; parents; sister, Janice Gray (Jerry); brother, Joseph (Linda) (Judy); and brother, Patrick (Jerel). He leaves behind little sister, Mary (Paul) Saggau of Fremont; two children; and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will miss him dearly.
A prayer service was held on September 2nd at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont.
Burial in the Central City Cemetery will be on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
