For High Plains, the weight of history is both a burden and an opportunity.

This isn’t just a chance to punch a ticket to the NSAA State Tournament—it’s a chance to bring something back to Clarks, Polk, and Hordville that has been missing for decades.

For the Storm, a victory tonight in Superior wouldn’t just be about advancing; it would be about breaking a cycle, about finishing a fight that has been left unfinished for generations.

The matchup
High Plains (19-7) at Superior (20-4) | District D1-4 Final | 6 p.m. | Superior, NE

The last time Clarks made it to state, Bill Clinton was still in his first term. The last time Polk-Hordville made it, Ronald Reagan was still the president of the United States.

The last time Hordville qualified? It was 1977. Jimmy Carter had just been sworn in.

And through it all, girls basketball in our coverage area has seen one solitary win at state.

That lone victory came in 1985, when Clarks beat Sidney St. Patrick 60-54.

Tonight, history calls.

But standing in the way is Superior—a program that has been here before. The Wildcats know what it takes to win at this level, having made nine trips to state, including a 2018 state championship run in Class C-2.

Superior’s path has been forged by dominant interior play and suffocating defense.

They outscore opponents 54.1 to 35.7 on average
They control the glass with a 35.7 RPG average
They feature a 6-foot-2 sophomore in Reagan Meyers, who puts up 16.1 points and 12.1 rebounds per game
High Plains cannot let this become a half-court game.

Storm survival plan
Press and push tempo. High Plains has the guards to dictate pace, and they must make this game uncomfortable for Superior.

Get gritty on the boards. Emma Brown (9.1 PPG, 8.8 RPG) and Rylee Ackerson (7.2 PPG, 5.8 RPG) will have to battle like their career depends on it—because it does.

Peyton Hofmann (9.8 PPG, 2.8 SPG) and Gahvi Lesiak (9.3 PPG, 3.7 SPG) have to be relentless and find ways to manufacture points in transition.

Get a big night from Courtney Carlstrom. The senior has been a steady presence all season, averaging 8.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. If she makes her mark, it could be the difference. She is a warrior!

Leave it all on the floor. This is not the time to hold anything back.

If you can, be there. If not, follow along on Superior’s Striv feed.

Because history is on the line.

And if High Plains punches their ticket to Lincoln tonight, they won’t just be taking a team to state.

They’ll be taking an entire region with them.
