Edith A. Kunz, 99, of Lincoln, formerly of Central City, died on Monday, August 19, 2024 at Waterford Wilderness Hills Memory Care in Lincoln.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Central City with Father Bill L’Heureux officiating.  Visitation will be on Saturday, August 24th from 9-10 a.m. with a 10 a.m. Rosary service at St. Michael’s Catholic Church.  Burial of ashes will be held at a later date.

Edith was born on June 1, 1925 to Edward R. and Mary Catherine (Steinhauser) Jansen in Atkinson, Nebraska.  She grew up in the Atkinson area and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School.  On June 12, 1946 Edith was united in marriage to Bert Kunz in Atkinson, NE.  They were blessed with four children; Richard, Michael, Terri, and Gregg.  In 1961 Bert and Edith moved to Ord, where they purchased The Ord Drive Inn.  While in Ord, Edith also began working at Millie’s Dress Shop, which she would eventually purchase.  In 1977 they then bought The Dairy Queen in Central City and would remain in Central City until 2008, when they moved to Lincoln. 

Edith was a member of St. Bonaface Catholic Church in Stuart, St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Central City and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ord.  She was also active with the American Legion Auxiliary and Christian Mother’s in Stuart, Ord Alter Society, and Central City Catholic Ladies.

Edith and Bert were avid dancers.  They especially enjoyed ballroom dancing.  She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing with photo printer, and baking pies and cinnamon rolls.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Rick (Kazuko) Kunz of Central City, Mike (Linda) Kunz of Ord, Terri (Dick) Dworak of Ashland, and Gregg Kunz of Lincoln, her 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bert; and her siblings, Evelyn Skrdla, Edward Jansen, Charles Jansen, Mary Catherine Estes, and Irene Cobb.
