In heartfelt ceremonies brimming with excitement and school spirit, Central City High School’s own Jerzie Schindler and Nebraska Christian’s Ali Bruning took a leap towards their collegiate dreams, signing with the University of Nebraska-Kearney. With the rallying cry of "Lopes Up," these two athletes are set to carry the torch of Central City's storied athletic legacy into the Lopers' arena.

Jerzie Schindler, a name synonymous with softball excellence in Central City, is now on the cusp of donning the blue and gold of the Lopers. Amidst family, coaches, and her Central City softball teammates, Jerzie’s signing day was a festive testament to her hard-earned success.

High school softball coach Neely Moser, reflecting on Jerzie’s evolution, noted, "Jerzie’s journey from a student manager to a standout pitcher and team leader is a story of dedication and passion for the sport." Moser’s sentiments were echoed by Central City girls’ basketball coach Dan Negus, who commended Jerzie for her leadership both on the court and within the community.

Jerzie’s high school career is one for the record books, literally. With state-tieing career wins, no-hitters, and multiple MVP awards, her athletic feats are as exceptional as her leadership qualities. "It's been an honor to watch Jerzie grow. She's going to do great things in the world, and softball is just the beginning," Moser added.
As Jerzie sets her sights on the challenges of college softball and a future career as a nurse practitioner, she carries with her an indomitable spirit and the well-wishes of an entire city that has watched her grow, play, and inspire.

Ali Bruning, a volleyball standout from Nebraska Christian, has not only played her way into the record books but also into the hearts of the local community. With assists tantalizingly close to the school record and a staggering number of kills, aces, and digs, Ali’s impact on the court is undeniable.
Coach Amy Schreiber couldn’t hide her pride, stating, "Ali's leadership as a setter and her ability to steer the team to victory has been monumental." Schreiber highlighted Ali’s role in propelling the team to an astounding 99 victories, a testament to her skill and determination.

As Ali prepares to take her talents to the Lopers, her legacy at Nebraska Christian serves as a beacon for future athletes. The same hands that set up victorious spikes are now ready to set a new standard at UNK, supported by a community that believes in her every step of the way.

Jerzie Schindler and Ali Bruning are not just signing up for a college team; they are stepping into a larger arena where their athletic prowess, academic ambitions, and community spirit will be on full display. They carry with them the pride of two Central City schools, a shared history of excellence, and the unyielding support of every teammate, coach, and fan that has cheered them on. As they move forward, the entire community joins in a resounding "Lopes Up" for their future success.
