Winning streaks are always fun and that is where the Central City High School softball team finds themselves currently in the season. After a pair of losses, the Lady Bison finished August with a win and remain perfect in September riding a seven-game winning streak.

This past week was another quality one for Central City who now looks ahead to another busy week with some tough competition headed their way. The Bison will host a quality Aurora team and look for some revenge after having a win slip through their fingers last year in Aurora. Saturday they will hit the road and head to Pierce for the Pierce Softball Tournament. In opening round action, they will face Cuming County while Ponca, Highway 91, O’Neill, South Sioux City, Ord and Pierce are also in the tournament field. Monday the team will have a quick turnaround with a triangular on Monday. The opening game Central City will face Southern Valley/Alma at 4:00 pm with senior night festivities to follow. The night will end with a matchup against Ord and on Tuesday night the team will battle on the road at Schuyler.

Now sitting 10-3 on the season, the Bison will hope for the same success they found on Tuesday night in a big 9-1 victory over Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan/Friend (FCEMF). Jerzie Schindler was nearly in cruise control on the mound after already securing her 400th career strikeout earlier in the week. Schindler gave up just three hits and one earned run while striking out nine FCEMF batters.

The bats continued to stay hot for Central City as they were led by a big night for Hallie Rutherford who finished the game with two hits and two walks while driving in two runs and also hit a homerun in the game. Karlee Seitz also drove in a pair of runs on two hits and Caleigh Botsch finished three for four with a triple and RBI. Payton Burbach also tripled to score a run while Reagan Fousek also pushed across a run.

*Monday night it was much of the same for the Lady Bison as Schindler dominated on the mound giving up just three hits and striking out nine as the team rolled over Twin River 13-0. Botsch was the hero of the day as she delivered in a big way at the plate going four for four with a homerun, a double and drove in five runs. Celeste Moser also rose to the occasion as she finished the game two for three with four RBIs while Schindler, Burbach and Karlee Seitz all drove in runs.

*Last Thursday it was a big game for the Bison who looked to get a quality win over Blue River. The team jumped out to a 3-0 lead and then exploded in the third inning to help them cruise to a 10-2 victory. Schindler have up three hits and two earned runs while striking out nine batters through four inning and Burbach finished the game in the final inning without giving up a hit and striking out two batters.

Burbach, Botsch and Moser all plated two runs for the Bison while Schindler, Makenna Schenk, Emma Steinke and Ava Steinke all recorded an RBI. Karlee Seitz was also impressive going two for three at the plate while Rutherford also had a hit in the contest.
