Area schools plan for homecoming
This year homecoming week is quickly upon us as both Central City High School and High Plains Community headed into a busy week ahead of Friday nights big football game. At Central City High School, it will be a week of fun ended with the annual homecoming parade and royalty being crowned at Preferred Popcorn Field following a big matchup with Holdrege.
The week will be full of fun for students and on Friday the entire community is welcome to join in on the fun with the annual parade with “Blast to the Past” as this year’s theme. At 2:00 pm on Friday students will make their way from Central City High School towards Central City Elementary School via 15th Avenue. A pep rally will then be held at the elementary school. Local residents are asked to join in on the fun and line the parade route.
Special guests in the parade will include this year’s Homecoming Court who will be honored in the parade and also later

at the football game. The Queen candidates consist of: Marissa Crumrine, the daughter of Katie and Jaramie Elton. Marissa has been a member of the National Honor Society and on the Honors Honor Roll while also participating in volleyball, cheer, yearbook, unified track and the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. Marissa hopes to obtain a four-year degree in Special Education after graduating from CCHS.
Kenzie Fousek, the daughter of Josh and Erin Fousek. Kenzie has been a member of the National Honor Society and on the Superior Honor Roll while participating in golf, cheer show choir and yearbook. Her plan after high school is to attend the University of Nebraska-Kearney to study Elementary Education.
Brielle Hamer, the daughter of Brandon and Karmen Hamer. Brielle is a member of the National Honor Society while making the Superior Honor Roll all four years. She participates in dance, track, choir, show choir and band in addition to also being a five-time published author, Harvest of Harmony Pageant candidate, Steps Dance Academy dancer and active in science and musical theater. After high school she hopes to attend Grand Canyon University and pursue a degree in Applied Marketing and Advertising.
Brianna Mundorf, the daughter of Mindy Fuelberth and Josh Kuck. Brianna has served as a class officer, National Honor Society member and been on the Superior Honor Roll at CCHS. She has participated in softball, show choir, quiz bowl, research, yearbook and the Big Brother Big Sister program. After high school she hopes to obtain a Doctorate of Pharmacy.
Hayley Stahn, the daughter of Ty and Sherree Stahn. Hayley has been a member of the National Honor Society and on the Superior Honor Roll each year while also serving as the Vice President of her class. She has been active in dance and cheer. She hopes to attend Arizona State University to major in Forensic Psychology after graduation.
Ava Steinke, the daughter of Marc and Val Steinke. Ava has received academic honors with the Honors Honor Roll while participating in softball, basketball and leadership in her time at Central City High School. Her plans after graduation are still undecided at this time.
The King candidates consist of: Clark Brown, the son of Kevin and Ann Brown. Clark has been on the Superior Honor Roll while also participating in football, basketball, track, FFA, Skills USA, FCA and coaching flag football. After graduation he hopes to attend SCC in Beatrice and study Farm Management and Production before returning home to take over the family farm.
Tyler Carroll, the son of Michelle Carroll and Tony Carroll. Tyler has been on the Honor Roll while participating in football, basketball, track, concert choir, show choir, musical, FCA and coaching flag football. After graduation he hopes to earn a degree in Education and work as a teacher and coach.
Ashton Gragg, the son of Melissa and Scott Gragg. Ashton is a member of the National Honor Society and has also been on the Superior Honor Roll while participating in football, basketball, baseball and coached flag football. Ashton was also named a captain of this year’s football team. After high school he plans to pursue a degree in business.
Nathaniel Heins, the son of Aaron and Michelle Heins. Nathaniel has been on the Superior Honor Roll and National Honor Society while participating in football, basketball, FCA, Merrick County 4-H Trap Team and coaching flag football. He hopes to attend a four-year college and pursue a degree in accounting after graduation.
Derek Pfeifer, the son of Rob and Chasity Pfeifer. Derek has been on the Superior Honor roll and National Honor Society while also being named Academic All-State. He has participated in football, basketball, track, show choir, FCA and coach flag football. After high school he plans to attend college to eventually become a dentist.
Dylan Pfeifer, the son of Chasity and Rob Pfeifer. Dylan has been a member of the National Honor Society and earned a spot on the Superior Honor Roll while also earning Academic All-State honors. He has participated in football, basketball, track, show choir, musical, FCA and has coached flag football. After school he hopes to pursue a degree in the medical field.
*High Plains Community will also be looking to crown their homecoming royalty this Friday at the completion of the football game in Clarks instead of at halftime like in previous years. Queen candidates will consist of Kenzie Wruble, the daughter of Sheri and Jerry Wruble of Clarks; Yessica Barrios, the daughter of Xydalha Alfaro and Eli Barrios of Clarks and Roberta Hines, the daughter of Maria and Ernest Hines Sr. of Polk.
King candidates will consist of Nathan Ertzner, the son of Brandy Ertzner and Dan Ertzner of Polk; Mario Lesiak, the son of Tara and Terry Lesiak of Clarks and Austin Van Housen, the son of Carlene and Todd Van Housen of Polk.
