Huskers win, Huskers win, Huskers win. Now lets see if they can get it done this week, but don’t be alarmed if they play a close game because this week will be no easy task.
I like many of you was very upset with the way the season started for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. I like many of you spent the entire week wondering what in the heck was going on in Lincoln. This past Saturday I took my 8-year-old son, Rutledge, to his first ever Husker football game and I spent the entire first quarter wondering if it was the right decision.
I could see it in his face, the boredom. As Nebraska struggled to score points my worries continued to grow that I was losing him and when he started tracking the Runza guy instead of the game I thought we had a big problem.
In the second half the Husker pulled through and with every score and big play Rutledge was jumping to his feet and celebrating with all of the great people who surrounded us. Like a retired school teacher from Plattsmouth or the couple who left as the fourth quarter began because they needed to go bale hay. The people who I didn’t know, but now we share a moment together.
Rutledge celebrated and also joined in when it came to complaining about the officials and I let that one go because I could see the excitement in his eyes. I watched him turn into a lifelong Husker fan right there in section 38 and now I’m going to have a problem when I don’t take him with me to the Oklahoma game in two weeks. I still haven’t decided who I’m taking so all bribes can be dropped off at our office.
We almost got the sweep for the week with only High Plains coming out on the losing end. Anything could happen this week, but I am going to make the bold prediction that all three local teams and the Huskers get a win this weekend.
A big homecoming week for Central City and High Plains who look to welcome back alumni and crown royalty. Be sure to be safe this weekend and as always, thank you for reading.
