With the approval of Central City High School and the City Council of Central City, senior Jennifer Jensen will join the council as an associate member in an attempt to prepare today’s youth for tomorrow’s leadership.

This past Friday the High Plains Community Storm held their homecoming festivities where they crowned Kylee Fischer Homecoming Queen and Ethan Fleming was named Homecoming King.

Central City Elementary School students Ashton Stuart and Christian Sanchez reflect during a moment of silence following a school-wide Pledge of Allegiance in observation of the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The Central City City Council met as scheduled on Monday evening with Council President Dick Vaughn sitting in the Mayor’s seat, but were unable to resolve the viaduct issue.

Despite bouts with bad weather, construction at the new middle school building has been steady, it was reported at Monday’s regular Central City School Board meeting.

Cheerleaders, parents and fans formed a human tunnel at Friday night’s Central City-Superior football game, only this was to lead the Bison players off the field after their 12-9 victory over the Wildcats. Central City railed 9-6 at the half but scored the go-ahead TD in the third quarter.

The City Council Monday night launched a project to repair deteriorating headstones at the city cemetery by approving a $1,430 bid by Wegner Monument Co. to straighten 12 stones at the cemetery.

New Chamber Officers include Willa Freelend who was re-elected for a second term as president of the Central City Chamber of Commerce while Mike Bittinger was named 1st vice president and Bob Elznic named 2nd vice president.

The Rev. Wayne H. Carlson was joined by other Clergy as the group celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Central City Christ Episcopal Church.

Supt. M.,W. Shreve announced a total enrollment of 1166 for 1972, that number is up just one lone student from the 1971 enrollment numbers.
