Eagles sweep Storm in battle of winning teams
Both Nebraska Christian and High Plains Community have found plenty of wins on the volleyball court this season, but on Thursday the teams found themselves battling each other in the annual showdown of area teams.
The Storm battled until the end, but the Lady Eagles were too much for them to handle as Nebraska Christian rolled (25-18, 25-16, 25-19) to a victory over High Plains. Reghan Flynn led the way for the Eagles with 12 kills and 10 digs while Taytum Perdew also impressed with 8 kills and 4 digs. Sheridan Falk added 4 kills while Ali Bruning did it all recording 3 kills, two ace serves, five digs and 21 assists. Amanda Needham added three kills and nine digs while Graci Boersen added six digs and Hope Seip recorded nine digs.
For High Plains it was Kenzie Wruble who led the way in the losing effort as she notched seven kills and ten digs. Hailey Lindburg added six kills and 12 digs while freshman Peyton Hoffman added three kills, three aces and seven digs. Courtney Carlstrom recorded two kills, three blocks, eight digs and 14 assists while Rylee Ackerson added two kills of her own. Allie Howell came up with two block while Emily Ackerson recorded 12 digs in the match.
High Plains also recorded a 2-0 victory over Palmer on Tuesday night, but fell to Riverside. On Saturday the team was near perfect as they secured victories over Heartland Lutheran, Elba and McCool Junction to be crowned champions on the day.
For Nebraska Christian it was a bit of a slow week as they now prepare for the annual Central City Invitational where this year they will host a portion of the tournament on the Nebraska Christian campus due to renovations at Central City Public Schools.
The Lady Eagles will host Lexington at 9:00 am, Wood River at 11:30 am and then Hastings at 2:00 pm. The first place match and third place match are scheduled for 4:00 pm at Central City Middle School and Nebraska Christian High School respectively, but location could be flipped depending on what four teams advance to the final two games of the day.
