Merrick County Fair to begin this weekend

The annual Merrick County Fair will once again this year offer a wide array of entertainment and activities over its four-day run, starting this Saturday.

Merrick County 4-H activities begin Saturday with the horse show, starting at 8 a.m., with small animal, sheep and goat and poultry judging on Monday and the beef shows on Tuesday. The annual 4-H livestock sale will be held Wednesday, July 31, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Sunday is exhibit entry day, Tuesday is senior citizen’s day and Wednesday is Kid’s Day at the Fair, the latter featuring a day of events designed just for children.
Other highlights of the weekend will include the 17th annual junior rodeo on Sunday at 7 p.m., the 37th annual demolition derby on Monday at 8 p.m., and the extreme bull riding and bull fighting competitions to be held Tuesday night at 8 p.m.

Wednesday night at 8, country music singer Gwen Sebastian will provide a concert at the grandstand.
As usual, D.C. Lynch Shows, based in Chapman, will provide the rides and midway entertainment.
