High-speed pursuit ends early for safety

A high-velocity police pursuit that originated in Aurora on Monday evening ended in the middle of Merrick County without a suspect in custody, says Merrick County Sheriff John Westman.

“My office received a call for assistance from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, which was assisting the Aurora Police Department in a high-speed pursuit northbound on Highway 14,” says Westman. “The fleeing suspect took 28th Street to Highway 30 through Central City, then jumped on 30 and headed westbound. The notice was so short, and the speeds so high, that we were behind from the beginning.”
